Meet Shiksha Sankalp Scholar Fulwati Fateh Singh

Currently pursuing an integrated B.Tech–M.Tech in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Construction Technology and Management at NIT Patna, Fulwati Fateh Singh Sangwan belongs to that rare group of students who combine academic excellence with grounded ambition. She has consistently ranked among the top 0.1% of her class and scored 95.2% in Class 10 and 96.4% in Class 12. Her academic excellence was evident early on, when she was recognized among the top 0.1% of students by the Board of School Education Haryana.

She was also selected for Haryana Super 100, a state government initiative that identifies high-performing government school students and provides them with intensive coaching and mentorship to prepare for competitive exams like JEE. For many, this program becomes a turning point. For Fulwati, it became a foundation she steadily built upon.

Her achievements extend beyond academics. At NIT Patna, she has won gold medals twice in badminton and hurdles at the institute’s intramurals. These are not just extracurricular highlights. They reflect her discipline, consistency, and ability to balance multiple commitments with focus.

Behind these accomplishments lies a more difficult reality. Fulwati comes from a family of seven. Her father, a farmer, is the sole earning member, and her mother is a homemaker. With three siblings also studying, even basic educational expenses require careful planning. For Fulwati, continuing her education is not just a personal goal but a shared family responsibility. Each semester brings with it the question of affordability. Despite this, she has remained steady, refusing to let financial constraints define the limits of her aspirations.

Her long-term goal is to pursue research and eventually become a professor. It is not an abstract ambition. She sees teaching as a meaningful way to give back to society. Through civil engineering, especially in construction technology and management, she hopes to contribute to sustainable development and build infrastructure that directly improves people’s lives.

Equally significant is her commitment beyond her own journey. Fulwati is an active NSS volunteer at NIT Patna and a core member of “Sankalp – Ghar Ghar Shiksha Ka,” an initiative that provides free education to underprivileged children up to Class 10. Her role goes beyond teaching. She helps organise efforts, mobilise resources, and ensure students have access to essential learning materials.

In the aftermath of COVID, when educational disruption affected vulnerable students the most, Fulwati and her team extended support to students preparing for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance exams by arranging books and notebooks. She is now working to introduce additional classes for NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship) preparation for Class 9 students, helping them access scholarships that can ease their educational journey.

Fulwati Fateh Singh Sangwan represents what the Lakshya Scholarship seeks to support, not just academic excellence, but intent, integrity, and a quiet determination to use education as a means to create impact beyond oneself.
