In the lanes of Bhubaneswar lives a young artist and dreamer, Aisha Panda. Aisha’s world has always been filled with colors, brushes, and canvases. Her paintings have not only kept her spirit alive but also helped her shoulder the weight of her family’s struggles and her own education. From selling her artwork to participating in competitions, with the prize money won Aisha found a way to contribute meaningfully at a very young age.
Life, however, has not been easy. In 2022, she lost her father after a prolonged illness. He once ran a business in Jaipur, but during his hospitalization, deceit robbed the family of both land and livelihood. The loss left Aisha’s family with emotional and financial wounds that have been difficult to heal. Her mother stepped forward with resilience, offering tuition for the Oriya language to children in the neighborhood, but the income is far from stable, and the household runs on uncertainty.
Amidst these challenges, Aisha has refused to let hardship define her future. Currently pursuing her BA B.Ed at the University Department of Teacher Education, Utkal University, she has chosen teaching as her path, deeply inspired by her sister and uncle, both of whom are in the profession. She believes in being present for her future students, guiding them not just in academics but in their personal growth. Teaching, to her, is about shaping lives with patience and empathy. She speaks with quiet determination about wanting to “be around students, teaching them and solving their issues effectively.”
Aisha’s journey is also decorated with achievements that speak of her talent and hard work. She won first prize in the Poster and Slogan competition on the MyGov platform, organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Her poster on the theme “Don’t Take it Easier – Tobacco is a Silent Killer” stood out for its clarity and impact. She has also been recognized internationally, winning awards at the International Tiger Youth Summit art poster competition, International Vulture Awareness Day 2020, and International Mountain Day 2020 online painting competition. Each recognition is a testament to her creativity, persistence, and voice as a young artist.
Today, as a recipient of the Shiksha Sankalp Lakshya Scholarship, Aisha steps a little closer to her dreams. The scholarship lightens the financial strain and gives her the freedom to focus on her education and growth without the constant worry of whether the next opportunity will be within her reach.
Aisha’s path has not been easy, but she continues to move forward with steady determination. Each challenge has shaped her into someone stronger, someone who knows the value of hard work and support. As she pursues her dream of teaching, she carries with her the hope of sharing her creativity with the students she guides, inspiring them to explore their own talents and passions.
Some of Aisha’s creations, in her own colors and strokes, are shared below.
