For Akshay Sethi, medicine is not only about becoming a doctor. It is about what happens on the other side of treatment, when a patient feels better, a family feels relieved, and someone who was in pain can finally smile again.
That simple human connection is what drew Akshay towards medicine.
Akshay, from Jaipur, Rajasthan, is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College in Sirohi. His interest in medicine comes from a desire to be able to help people in a meaningful and direct way. For him, there is something deeply satisfying about knowing that the knowledge he gains through his studies can eventually ease someone’s suffering or, in critical situations, even save a life.
Akshay comes from a middle-class family in Jaipur. His father is the family’s only earning member and works in a private company, while his mother is a homemaker. His parents have always placed a strong emphasis on education and have done their best to support their children’s aspirations despite having limited financial resources.
With Akshay pursuing an MBBS degree and his sister studying BDS, the cost of higher education has become a significant responsibility for the family. His father’s income has to cover the family’s everyday needs as well as the education expenses of both children.
There is a long road between entering medical college and becoming the kind of doctor Akshay hopes to be. It involves years of study, training, examinations, and learning to handle the responsibility that comes with caring for another person’s health.
The Lakshya Scholarship is helping him take the next steps on that journey: one that began with a genuine interest in helping others and is now taking shape through his medical education.
For Akshay, becoming a doctor is still a work in progress. But the reason he chose this path has remained simple: to know that what he learns can one day make someone’s life a little better.
