Meet Lakshya Scholar Abhishek

For Abhishek, education was never something that could be taken for granted. Until Class 8, he studied in a government school where education came at no cost. When he moved to a private Pre-University college for Classes 9 to 12, he could do so only because he had earned a scholarship through his academic performance. Even at a young age, he understood that every new classroom he entered was made possible by hard work, not just his own, but also that of his family.

Growing up in Shahapur, Karnataka, Abhishek has watched his parents stretch every rupee to keep their three children in school. His father sells tickets at a local cinema theatre, while his mother supplements the family’s income by taking up tailoring and small stitching jobs whenever work is available.Their earnings are just enough to meet the family’s daily expenses, leaving very little for higher education.

As educational expenses increased, borrowing from relatives became the only way to ensure that the children could continue studying. His elder brother is pursuing Computer Science with the help of a partial scholarship and a bank loan, while his elder sister is studying Ayurveda. Supporting three children in professional courses has placed an enormous financial burden on the family, but Abhishek’s parents have never allowed financial hardship to become an excuse to give up on education.

One of the strongest influences in Abhishek’s life has been his mother. Having studied up to Class 12 herself, she spent countless hours teaching her children at home and constantly reminding them that education was the one opportunity that could truly change their future. Her belief in learning, despite the family’s circumstances, created an environment where discipline and perseverance became a way of life.

Abhishek responded to that faith with exceptional dedication. He consistently excelled in academics, emerging as the district topper in his Class 10 examinations before scoring 94.83% in Class 12. In 2025, he secured an impressive 99.55 percentile in NEET with an All India Rank of 9,714, earning admission to the prestigious Bangalore Medical College to pursue MBBS.

While academics have always been his priority, Abhishek believes that learning extends beyond textbooks. He actively participated in quizzes, debates, cultural programmes, and cricket throughout school and college. He also volunteered with Youth for Seva, contributing to the Chiguru initiative, which encourages students from government schools to pursue their education with confidence and ambition.

His decision to study medicine is deeply connected to the place where he grew up. In his village, access to healthcare remains a challenge, with the nearest hospital often 80 to 100 kilometres away. He has seen how delays in reaching medical care can cost lives. These experiences have shaped his aspiration to become a cardiologist who serves rural communities by making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable.

For a family that has depended on scholarships, loans, and the support of relatives to educate their children, the Lakshya Scholarship is a welcome source of stability. It helps ensure that Abhishek’s talent – not his financial circumstances – continues to shape his future.

Abhishek’s story is that of a family that chose education over comfort, of parents who quietly sacrificed so their children could build better futures, and of a young man who has made the most of every opportunity placed before him. As he begins his journey in medicine, he carries with him not only academic excellence but also a deep understanding of responsibility, resilience, and the importance of giving back to the communities that shaped him.
