Meet Shiksha Sankalp Scholar Daraksha Bano

Daraksha Bano’s story is not shaped by ease or certainty, but by steady effort in the face of difficult circumstances. Daraksha is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in B.Pharm (Ayurveda) at the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus of Banaras Hindu University in Mirzapur.

Daraksha’s path to higher education has been deeply tested. In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic took away her father. Just two years later, a road accident claimed her mother’s life. These losses, arriving in quick succession, reshaped her world and placed an immense emotional and financial burden on a young student still finding her way.

Hailing from Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Daraksha is one of five siblings. With the eldest sister married and her younger brothers continuing their studies, the family’s survival depends on collective resilience. One brother contributes by working as a tailor in Delhi, while Daraksha herself chose an equally demanding path, continuing her education while becoming financially self-reliant.

Rather than allowing circumstance to dictate her future, Daraksha adapted with determination. She supports herself by tutoring students online, carefully balancing academic rigor with the practical realities of independent living. This discipline and self-direction reflect a maturity well beyond her years.

Her choice of Ayurveda is deeply intentional. It is rooted in a desire to practice medicine that is accessible, humane, and grounded in service. Equally important is the quiet promise she carries forward, fulfilling her parents’ dream of seeing her become a healthcare professional who serves those who are often left behind.

At Shiksha Sankalp Society, we believe education is not merely about degrees, but about dignity, purpose, and possibility. Daraksha represents all three. Supporting her journey is not an act of charity, but a shared investment in resilience and the transformative power of education.
