Rose Maria’s Story
BA History Honours at Jesus and Mary College (JMC), Delhi University.
Muskan Yadav’s life has been shaped early by discipline, loss, and responsibility. Her family traces its roots to Bhiwani district in Haryana, but her childhood unfolded across India, following the postings of her father, a Hawaldar in the Indian Army. For over two decades, he served the nation with quiet dedication, embodying values of resilience and duty that would leave a lasting imprint on his daughter.
While posted in Jammu, Muskan completed her schooling at Army Public School, Jammu Cantt. She distinguished herself academically, securing over 90 percent in her Class 12 examinations and earning a scholarship from the Indian Army. Yet, this milestone coincided with a profound personal loss. During her Class 12 year, Muskan lost her father while he was still in service. His passing marked a turning point, one that required strength far beyond her years.
After this loss, Muskan moved to Delhi with her family. Today, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. As a student, she is deeply interested in business, finance, and marketing, interests that began to take shape as early as Class 11. She believes that education today cannot be limited to a degree alone. Continuous learning, skill development, and staying intellectually engaged are, for her, essential to building a meaningful future.
Muskan’s ambitions extend beyond personal success. She plans to appear for the UPSC examination with the goal of becoming an IAS officer. This aspiration is both personal and symbolic. Where her father once wore the stars of military service, she hopes to earn her own star through civil service, fulfilling a dream he carried and extending his legacy in a different uniform.
Her journey, however, is not without hardship. Muskan’s family consists of three members: herself, her younger brother, and her mother. Her mother is a homemaker and faces medical challenges that prevent her from seeking employment. There is currently no earning member in the family, aside from the army pension they receive. While this pension allows them to meet basic needs, living and studying in a city like Delhi brings additional pressures. Travel, academic resources, and everyday educational expenses create a constant strain.
The Shiksha Sankalp Lakshya Scholarship offers Muskan more than financial support. It offers stability. It allows her the mental space to focus on her studies without the persistent anxiety of managing expenses. For Muskan, reduced financial stress translates directly into better academic engagement, deeper learning, and the confidence to plan for a future that is otherwise difficult to visualize under constant constraint.
Muskan Yadav’s story is of quiet perseverance, of choosing discipline over despair, and of holding onto ambition even when circumstances demand self-reliance at an early age. As a recipient of the Shiksha Sankalp Lakshya Scholarship, she represents the purpose of the programme: enabling capable, determined students to continue their education with dignity, focus, and hope.
Her journey is still unfolding. But it is already marked by intent, integrity, and a deep respect for the value of learning, qualities that education, when supported at the right moment, can help transform into lasting impact.
