Vanshika Gupta's Story

Meet Shiksha Sankalp Scholar Vanshika Gupta

When students move to a new city for college, they often carry hopes, ambitions, and the excitement of a fresh start. For Vanshika Gupta from Meerut, her move to Delhi to pursue a BA English Honours degree at Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University was all of that and more. It marked the beginning of a journey that would test her resilience in ways she could not have anticipated.

JMC opened up conversations and ideas that pushed her to think more deeply about identity, culture, and the stories we inherit from the world around us. Her academic interests began to take shape, especially through literature that questioned social norms and highlighted voices often overlooked.

Just as she was settling into her academic rhythm, her family’s financial situation took a difficult turn. Rising family medical expenses disrupted their stability, prompting her to seek support from the university. She was granted a fee and hostel waiver for two years, which allowed her to continue her studies without interruption.

By the time she entered her final year, the university support had ended, and her family was once again struggling to cope. Both her parents required ongoing medical care, and her younger sibling was pursuing engineering through an education loan. These responsibilities gradually shaped Vanshika’s everyday reality, making even routine academic expenses difficult to manage.

Despite these pressures, Vanshika found meaningful ways to contribute to her community. In her hostel, she teaches Hindi and English to four students from the North East of India, simply because she noticed they were struggling with daily communication and wanted to help. It is the kind of quiet assistance that rarely receives recognition but makes a real difference to those around her.

Amid the demands of college and the responsibilities at home, Vanshika continued finding her own ways to grow and stay involved. Her internship experience gave her career clarity. Working in an HR setting helped her understand systems, communication, and data management, and showed her that she is comfortable in roles that require both people skills and organisation. She now hopes to build a career in HR or marketing after completing her degree.

When Vanshika applied for the Shiksha Sankalp Lakshya Scholarship, it was not part of a long-term plan. It was a practical step to ensure she could complete her degree without further straining her family. The support arrived at a time when her choices were narrowing and gave her the stability she needed to finish her final year with clarity and confidence.

For Shiksha Sankalp Society, supporting students like Vanshika reflects the purpose of the Lakshya Scholarship: to stand by young people who continue to excel in academics despite difficult circumstances. Vanshika has been able to navigate her situation with steady effort and realistic hope. She studies, works, helps those around her, and keeps moving toward the future she intends to build. The scholarship enables her to complete this stage of that journey.
