Devendra Kumar’s Story

Meet Shiksha Sankalp Scholar Devendra Kumar

Devendra Kumar grew up in Khapatia village, Banda district, Uttar Pradesh. His parents have spent over two decades working in brick kilns, a life marked by long hours, harsh conditions, and little security. As a child, Devendra often worked alongside them in a kiln in Kanpur. For most children in such circumstances, education feels out of reach. Yet, with the support of APNA SKOOL (Jagriti Bal Vikas Samiti, Kanpur), Devendra was able to attend classes at the Maharajpur Modi kiln school while balancing the realities of his childhood.

From classes 1 to 8, APNA SKOOL gave him not just an education but also the belief that his future could look different. With their continued support, he cleared his 10th board exams from Paramhans Inter College, Banda, scoring 64%. Motivated, he went on to pass his 12th exams from the same school with strong results. Each mark on the sheet was more than a number; it was proof of his persistence and quiet determination to create a life beyond the kiln.

After completing school, Devendra chose to pursue the Electrician trade at Vishwanath Private Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Banda, in Uttar Pradesh under the National Council for Vocational Training. For him, ITI is not just about earning a certificate; it is a path toward stable and meaningful work that can support his family. The electrician trade offers practical skills that are always in demand, from wiring and circuit installation to motor winding and transformer repair. Devendra recognizes the value of these skills in today’s world, where electricity powers every home, workplace, and industry.

Devendra’s commitment to education and his vision for a secure livelihood led to his selection for the Shiksha Sankalp Lakshya Scholarship. This support has eased the financial burden of his training and allowed him to focus fully on building his expertise.

Devendra’s journey is one of persistence and progress. From a childhood in the brick kilns to becoming a student preparing for a skilled trade, he has shown that with opportunity and determination, it is possible to move forward. His story is not about sudden transformation but about small, consistent steps toward a more secure future, a future he is determined to build with his own hands.
